GDC – Protection of public vs illegal dentistry

If I want to go to a garage in a run down part of town and allow a scruffy guy in an apron to yank out my teeth, guess what?   I have already realised that this is probably not the best course of treatment available.

Yes, dentistry should be regulated and yes, every dental professional should be trained to a high degree, but for goodness sake, leave it up to the public where they should go for treatment.

If you don’t, competition is taken out of the equation and prices can only go one way. Up.

If the GDC really wish to protect the public, competition must be introduced to the marketplace, because if this does not happen, prices go too high and illegal dentistry becomes the only option for a lot of people. Not the ideal scenario.
